The Certified Organizer Coach™ Credential
It’s very exciting to announce the coming of this new certification!
Details of this credential will be posted here this summer.
The credentialing process will open in the fall.
Why a new certification?
This credential is being created because those professional organizers who have made the commitment to learn coaching skills and added coaching expertise to their work with clients have seen better results. The integration of these two skills sets (organizing and coaching) is powerful – much greater than each applied separately.
As the body of knowledge about how to most effectively integrate these skill sets has evolved, it’s become clear to organizers and, increasingly, the public, that there is a stronger option when they want more than a newly organized space. If they are also committed to dramatically shifting the mindset that has resulted in a disorganized home, work place and life -- then the transformative work of an Organizer Coach is the best choice.
Some organizers have mistakenly offered coaching services without coach training because their growing organizing wisdom has led to constructive and valuable communication with clients. Perhaps they use the term “coach” because the generic understanding of what a sports coach does makes it seem like an accurate descriptor. Without discounting the value of these conversations, this is not coaching. Because coaching is now a distinct profession with its own expertise it is no longer a truthful designation for someone who provides an informed and supportive conversation. Coaching skills and wisdom are developed through intensive and challenging training.
This credential has been developed in order to clarify that Organizer Coaches are a specific, skilled sub-group (of both coaches and organizers) who provide a service that is a distinct synergy of both fields. This is important for the public and for our potential clients, who need business people to use labels that are accurate in describing the services offered. It’s important for our trained coaching colleagues who reasonably dislike untrained people using the label “coach” loosely. And, it’s important for the organizing profession because a method of providing extraordinary service has emerged and deserves recognition.
